It is fortuitous that I was listening to CBC Radio One on my morning drive to work this week. I had literally just started my www.sailonsilvergirl.com blog to celebrate and empower all women when I discovered “Honey Jam”, an all-female multicultural multi-genre artist showcase produced by non-profit organization PhemPhat Entertainment Group.
On Sunday night at the Mod Club in Toronto’s Little Italy the 15th annual talent showcase will feature artists selected as a result of June auditions. According to the Honey Jam website www.honeyjam.com their annual showcases feature Canadian-based dj’s and artists of varied cultural backgrounds representing all genres of music – hip hop, jazz, gospel, pop, dancehall, opera, blues, r&b, rock, country, dance, and soca. PhemPhat also provides educational and mentoring opportunities for artists and supports and promotes women’s charities such as the YWCA’s programs for women and girls.
When: Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM
Where: The Mod Club, 722 College Street, Toronto, Ontario
Min. Age: 19
According to CBC archives, http://www.cbc.ca/bigcitysmallworld/ Honey Jam alumni include Jully Black, Masia One, and Nelly Furtado.
I can’t wait to learn about the new talent that emerges this year. If you attend the event, let us know what you thought of the artists!
